Circus Thinkers Platform is Cirkus Syd's flagship project. A space to read, think, talk, learn and reflect collectively with others across the globe.
We read and reflect on current texts, performances, practises and discourse relevant to the development of contemporary circus development. It's a weekly encounter - we meet every Tuesday 17:00-18:30 CEST/CET via Zoom. It's open for anyone who wishes anywhere in the world to join.
It's not mandatory to attend each week, you can come and go as you like. We decide as a group what we will focus on. We started with Falling the Thought of Circus by John Paul Zaccarini and have since revisited the open letters to the circus by Bauke Lievens, Thinking Through Circus by Circus Dialogues, essays by Peta Tait, zine by Ess Moser and many other works.
Apart from reading and discussing members also collectively watch performances and those who want engage in creative writing exercises, contribute to publications and develop projects.
“Circus Thinkers has developed into the feeling of a cohort, which I do not feel has a parallel in other organizations.” - member of CTP
"Cirkus Syd's Circus Thinkers is my favorite event of the week! It's a unique space where deep, intellectual rigor meets lighthearted, friendly conversation. The Circus Thinkers conversation structure which values respectful critical thinking and generative creative feedback is an outstanding model for any group discussion. These meetings have provided consistent professional development, community building, and publication opportunities that are essential to my personal circus work and the international circus sector." - Madeline Hoak
